Punk Rock Bands

Punk Rock bands defined the culture of punk rock music when it came into mainstream in 1975. Punk rock bands sang violent lyrics about alienation, sexual affairs and social angst. The thing that is different about punk rock band compared to other rock bands is that they produced and distributed their music through their own means with the help of informal channels. Punk bands were very attached to the DIY current, which meant Do It Yourself.

One of the most iconic punk rock bands is the Ramones. The band started out in 1975, in the New York underground. Since then, it has remained an emblem for the American punk industry. The Ramones are known for their fast and catchy tunes. The fast and agitated style of the songs is considered a typical punk quality, that is why, in a way, the Ramones are considered the founders of punk music.

Sex Pistols is the most famous punk brand ever created in the UK. The impact that they had on the punk genre was so huge. They were also the first punk band from the UK. The Clash is another iconic punk group which changed the British punk scene when their first album, entitled 'London Calling', came out. One particular punk band was very famous in the 1970’s for their songs about religious issues. Entitled Bad Brains, the band produced popular hardcore punk albums.

After the initial craze for punk movement, the punk scene fragmented into faster and more energetic sub-genres such as hardcore punk or Oi punk. Punk singers and players began to experiment more, but all the punk rock bands today keep a little inspiration from the original UK and American punk groups. The Ramones and Sex Pistols are iconic figures in the punk and music history and their legacy will always be kept alive in contemporary punk.
